This is a real time documentary of our Mayan shamanic adventure as it unfolds. It is not scripted nor a reenactment. What began as an attempt to document the medicinal plant knowledge of our friend, Shaman Luis, became an adventure that took us all over the Mexican Yucatan.
Come with us as we learn from shamans, explore Mayan ruins in the jungle, visit cities and outlying villages, and receive healings from several Mayan shamanic ceremonies along the way.
Our interest in alternative medicine and spiritual ceremony has led us on an intuitive journey to explore indigenous practices from all over the world. The ancient Maya are a people we are particularly interested in, because of their use of both medicinal plants and spiritual ceremonies for healing. This implies a connection between physical, emotional, and spiritual well being, a concept seldom considered in western medicine.
Our story takes place in southeastern Mexico, in the Yucatan Peninsula. The indigenous people in this region are descendants of the ancient Maya. These sophisticated people revolutionized mathematics with the concept of zero, which allowed them to calculate the movement and cycles of the stars with brilliant accuracy. They left behind a spectacular legacy of art, architecture, and refined civilization.
The fact that the Mayan people of today still utilize spiritual ceremony and medicinal plants for healing begs the question, "is there any validity to these methods"? The question is especially important in this modern age, where we see so many diseases for which we, as of yet, have no cure.
It is this question that fuels our quest for knowledge and understanding of the wisdom of the ancients. We believe that there is something to this, from which the whole world can benefit. It is time for this wisdom, which is already practiced by people all over the world, to come back to the forefront.
It is in this spirit that we present our documentary, "A Shamanic Journey in Yucatan". We hope that all people who are interested in alternative healing methods get a chance to view this film. We believe that there is a healing within the film for all those who are looking for one, and we have heard unsolicited testimonials of this from several people who have seen it.
The ancient Maya prophesied monumental world changes would occur at the end of the year 2012. Current world events seem to indicate that possibility. If we can put our faith and energy into that which is truly important, we will be free to embrace the new age as the old one passes away.
